I've seen a lot of discussions on Twitter about movies and television shows to watch during the quarantine, so I though I would do a small public service and list 50 movies, with descriptions, that I would recommend on either Netflix or Amazon Prime.
This list is not exhaustive. I am a cinephile, but there are a handful of movies I have yet to see that I am sure will be great. I am also not going to rank them, because that will distract from the project, but I will put my favorites generally earlier in the list.
And feel free to add your own recommendation and description to any streaming movie I either didn't list, or haven't seen. Without further Ado...
1. Shawshank Redemption- R - 1994- 144 mins

Based on a novella by Stephen King, this is a story of wrongful imprisonment, the unconquering human spirit and redemption. It's hard to watch at times, but every performance is terrific in the film and most of you have seen it already
2. Groundhog Day -PG- 1993- 101 mins

This movie is as funny and quirky as any Bill Murray film, but also provides insight into what we do with our time and our opportunities. A must watch, in the small chance you haven't seen it already.
3. Mystic River - R - 2003 - 138 mins

A great movie that deals with heavy emotional themes, it is the story of 3 childhood friends whose lives intersect in the wake of the murder and investigation of a teenage girl in Boston. Penn & Robbins are excellent. Eastwood as well.
4. Goodfellas - R - 1990 - 146 mins

In my opinion this is the pinnacle of Liotta, De Niro, Pesci, and Scorsese's careers. Save The Godfather, Goodfellas is the cream of the crop when it comes to movies about organized crime. So expect lots of violence.
5. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse - PG - 2018 - 117 mins

Grab the whole family and watch this film right now, if for some reason you haven't already. It's animated and technically a superhero film, but it transcends both of those general descriptions. It's an all time great.
6. It's A Wonderful Life - 1946 - 130 mins

If you haven't seen this yet, you are probably just avoiding it at this point, but this is one of the old classic movies that will still be relevant and worth watching in the year 3020.
7. Ghost Town - PG-13 - 2008- 102 mins

If you aren't a fan of Ricky Gervais, you won't like this film. But it is a funny movie with a lot of heart by the end of the film. It's the same plot as the 6th sense, only it's a comedy.
8. V for Vendetta - R - 2005 - 132 mins

In authoritarian and dystopian future England, one masked vigilante is bringing seeking revenge and a revolution. The screenplay is well done and everything, including the violence, is artistically done.
9. About Time - R - 2013 - 123 mins

This Rom Com is about a man who finds out that he is able to travel through time, so naturally, he uses this new found power to win the heart of Rachel McAdams. This a VERY tame R rated movie that your spouse will probably love as well.
10. Moonlight - R - 2016 - 111 mins

Moonlight is slow and methodical, but is expertly acted and directed with beautiful cinematography. It's about a young boy wrestling with his identity and sexuality, but to me is an introspective on loneliness.
Parts 2-5 coming shortly...
