Over the years, @SamScansStuff and I have played a lot of 2-player board games. Given that a lot of you are in quarantine with partners or roommates, here's a quick thread of some of our favorites to check out.
7 Wonders Duel is the game we played on our first date. It takes the 7 Wonders drafting formula and applies an elegant spacial puzzle to it to keep the drafting interesting with just two people.
Codenames Duet takes the excellent wordplay of Codenames and turns it co-op. The balancing mechanism makes it a bit more inflexible than the original, but it's worth it to be able to play with just two people.
We have played every iteration of Exit that has been released. It has some of the best lateral-thinking puzzles in board games. (Though it does lose points for being one-use.)
There are a lot of abstract two-player games out there, but I love Hive for a couple reasons. First, adding and subtracting tiles allows you to play in a lot of permutations, and second, the portable tiles are nearly indestructible. We've played in the dirt camping.
