Why does the hard-right want herd immunity?

Mass-testing & tracing will take months to implement. Unchecked, Covid-19 will infect most of the population in one month. So the ground will be cleared for Brexit. There's just the small matter of several hundred thousand deaths.

Furthermore, with herd immunity established by mid-Summer, Johnson and the right-wing press will be able to boast that thanks to brave and noble sacrifices Britain has been the first nation to defeat Covid-19. A near genocidal massacre will be marketed as a glorious victory.

The herd immunity right are not proposing ending the lockdown to protect the economy. They are pushing the idea for cheap political advantage. Hundreds of thousands will be allowed to die to assure a Tory triumph.
