With quarantine not letting up anytime soon, I’m going to go to listen through my whole record collection. Its an indulgent thing to do, but I’ve got the time and the boredom to do it. If something catches your eye, stay in and listen. Maybe you’ll find a new hand-washing song.
Kicking off with @mymorningjacket’s master live album Okonokos. One of the best live acts I’ve seen in my lifetime. When bands start touring again, make sure to catch them.
endless power pop riffs from DC’s finest - @exhexband
early-80s guitar jangle gems from @TheFeeliesNJ, forgot how much I loved the track “forces at work”
Sunday morning with the Soggy Bottom Boys.
Keeping the @remhq train rolling. “Not everyone can carry the weight of the world.”
Capacity by @bigthiefmusic gets overshadowed by their 2019 albums, but it has some of their best tracks. “Mythological Beauty” is an all-timer
If you can only work to instrumental music, check out @williamtylertn, incredible guitarist. This EP is $3 digitally on bandcamp, snag it. https://williamtyler.bandcamp.com/album/lost-colony
Segueing into this live @lambchopisaband set (that @williamtylertn plays on). If you’re not familiar with Lambchop, dive in on this “Up With People” performance, it rips -
One my favorite bands of the past few years is @rollingbcf. Catchy guitar-driven jams. This EP is a great intro to their sound: …https://rollingblackoutscoastalfever.bandcamp.com/album/the-french-press
This abandoned, drained swimming pool on the cover of @rollingbcf’s debut was striking two years ago. I bet there’s 100s of pictures like it this summer when all the pools are closed.
There are few album closers better than “Tugboat.”
Speaking of untouchable album closers...
low-key classic from ‘09
a lot of all-time classics are impossible to listen to without baggage. ‘loveless’ though, once you put it on you just sink into it completely
first of many talking heads albums on this quarantine adventure
I hope @youngjesusband puts out some new jams this year. The last track on this album hits some “it’s all gonna break” vibes
Matt Berninger recently did a cover of “Holes” off this album to benefit @PPact:
A go-to @lightintheattic comp of funky Memphis cuts. I remember getting this on a Nashville visit to @Grimeys back in 2011.
it’s friday, we made it
My rap knowledge is admittedly entry-level, but no one does it better than Outkast, right? This album is so good.
