This video, lets talk about this video. A lot of people have posted this video to say "Bhutto used foul language, was abusive" etc. But that isnt even important. That's not what this video shows. It gives us an amazing glimpse of his leadership style.
Every once in a while someone posts this video and says see ZAB is so cheap and abusive. Fuck all that, we all use bad words. What this video actually shows is that he was a man of no principles and no spine.
After the fall of Dhaka, Bhutto happily made the govt in dismembered Pakistan. It worked out great for him. But that was not the end of his ambitions. He wanted more, he wanted a leadership role in the Islamic world. But ofc, not at the cost of local popularity.
Pakistan, ofc, did not recognize Bangladesh and would not. That would have been political suicide. So, from 71 to 74, we did not.
Bangladesh on the other hand was busy building her foreign relations. Initially Islamic countries did not want to recognize Bangladesh.
But Bangladesh's outreach to Islamic countries, particularly Arabs was great. They supported Arabs in the Palestine cause, they provided material support in Arab-Israel war of 73. Arabs recognized and appreciated Bangladesh, and not only that they pressured Pakistan to recognize
Bangladesh. So, OIC pressured Bhutto to recognize Bangladesh but Bhutto knew it would be politically damaging for him in Pakistan, on the other hand Bhutto also wanted to be known as a leader of OIC and host a summit in Pakistan. Tough situation.
So, instead of being honest about it, here he is. Now watch the video again carefully.
He is talking about Bangladesh. He says that all Islamic countries recognize them, and they have lived with us and struggled with us in the past, they are our brothers and Muslims.
Basically hes trying to build a narrative. We can easily see he wants a positive answer. He wants people to say yes. He is trying to manipulate a crowd into saying yes. Says all the nice things about Bangladesh. Then pops the question: What kind of relationship do you want with
Bangladesh?
He is cocky, he thinks except for a few he has manipulated the crowd. He tells those few to sit down and he wants to see the crowds reaction. However, in his cockiness he did not anticipate they would be so overwhelmingly angry at the suggestion.
He sees the crowd is extremely agitated. Standing up and shouting and yelling angrily. He has gone too far and he knows it. So, without dropping a beat, without as much as giving away that it was his own bloody suggestion to recognize Bangladesh
As soon as he realizes he fucked up, he changes color like a chameleon. He suddenly starts abusing Bangladeshis to placate the crowd. Message is, see i am one of you, i hate Bangalis. I hate them too. I didnt even make any suggestion. Fuck them.
So this is the video, ZAB trying to manipulate the crowd, failing to do so, backtracking, and then abusing Bangalis. Thats why i say that he stood for nothing, had no principles, was a master manipulator, and hungry for power. So anyway, eventually
OIC oressured Pakistan to recognize Bangladesh. One of the conditions of holding OIC summit in Pakistan was that Pakistan recognize Bangladesh. Yes the same OIC summit jiyalas credit Bhutto with, milk to this day, "Leader of the Islamic world".
ZAB said Pakistan will recognize Bangladesh during the summit, as a symbol of Islamic unity. That manipulator knew that was the only way he could sell it to his public after this fiasco.
Sheikh Mujib, Bangabandhu, was adamant that Pakistan MUST recognize Bangladesh BEFORE the
Summit, and not during it. His logic was that he wont set foot in a country that doesnt recognize Bangladesh. However, ZAB convinced the Arabs that he was helpless and that is the only way he could do it. So, finally, in 1974, a high level delegation led by Kuwait
Went to Bangladesh and escorted Sheikh Mujib to Lahore. And finally, during the summit, Bhutto, on behalf of Pakistan, recognized Bangladesh in the garb of Islamic unity.
That is the story of this video and how Pakistan recognized Bangladesh.
Better than "Bhutto used foul language", isn't it?
