Having spent 2 weeks locked down in #Madrid🇪🇸, I have to say how starkly deficient arrangements in the #UK seem to be in comparison.

Maybe when folk in YOUR family or friendship group are struck down by #COVID19 , views may change.

Here are some of my casual observations:👇
2. Traffic is lighter than normal, but still far heavier than Spain. In Spain, on the way to the airport, I had to sit in the back seat while my partner drove. He was stopped by the police at the airport and questioned. I got from Heathrow to South East London unhindered. cont...
3. Lots - and I mean lots - of people about. Clapham Common was heaving as I drive past. Running, football, picnics. Spain is desolate; people in pairs get stopped; if you’re too far from home you get turned around. cont...
4. Cyclists everywhere! I saw one with a little trailer towing a BBQ, so clearly an avid sport cyclist🙄 And i’m surprised @SantanderCycles are still in operation, with a large group of friends (or possibly a massive house full of housemates) at a bike rack as I passed. cont...
5. Joggers... move over Mo Farah. Lots of singles running around, quite a few pairs, chatting side-by-side through heavy breaths. Very healthy. And please - I hate seeing joggers spitting at traffic lights - especially in the current climate! cont...
6. With an empty fridge, straight to a high street retailer ... good queue system outside. No gloves for customers. No obvious system for cleaning baskets before folk handle. Self-scan had plenty fingerprints all over the screen. Yum! V. different set-up in Madrid. cont...
7. All in all, odd moving from rigid system of public safety where, overwhelmingly, folk are in homes ... to UK’s casual, laid-back approach. Time will tell if, as #coronavirus deaths rise, a more urgent public attitude emerges to #stayhome for all but most pressing reasons. ENDS
