You may have noticed we've been conducting a number of assessments around the nation in support of the ongoing #COVID19 response. But what is an assessment? This short thread explains.
When requested by states and funded by @fema, USACE is conducting site assessments for potential alternate care facilities: A site assessment does not guarantee construction at that site. /2
Assessments examine a site’s potential as an alternate care facility needed for the COVID-19 pandemic response. /3
Site assessments determine if medical requirements are met including how many patients can fit into spaces and the proximity to nearby hospitals for critical elements of healthcare. /4
Additional considerations include utility requirements such as electrical, lighting, water, air filtration and handling capacities; safety features for emergency response and egress; staging of ambulances; and parking availability. /5
Once site assessments are complete, USACE provides the reports to and works with our partners so they can make informed decisions in the best interest of their state or territory. /6
States or territories can request continued assistance from USACE or execute the alternate care facility design and construction mission on their own based on their projected needs. /7
You can follow @USACEHQ.
