I tweeted a thread of my favourite books the other day and I realised that I never really tweet about the book that I essentially consider to be my favourite book ever — troublemakers by @okayjane — so here’s a thread of why I love the characters (I should be writing rn. help.)
also I’m TELLING y’all to read this book. go buy it and love it. thank u.
LENA — as a teenage girl who feels like she’s infinitely annoying her parents, I love Lena so much. she’s curious and messy and just altogether not-really-sure and she’s such a good protagonist. I see so many of the unsure and desperately passionate parts of myself in her.
DANNY — let’s see if I can get through this one without crying shall we? if you asked me to name my favourite characters ever Danny would probably be on that list. he’s so wonderfully real and his struggling with constant worrying and the ‘morality’ of... (1/2)
(2/2) ...Nick and Lena is something I hold so close to my heart because of how I see it replicated within myself. god I love this book ANYWAY
NICK — nick is such a wonderful and painful character to read because his relationship with lena reflects so well the feeling of growing up and realising that someone you thought was perfect isn’t, really, but that that’s okay.
OK I could go into detail about minor characters but I won’t do that many tweets (spoiler: I love them, this book is fantastic. shout out to teagan who is the best friend I wish I’d had growing up). I’m gonna finish this thread with some of my favourite quotes from troublemakers:
- “Maybe I get the same way too. Maybe we are all the same.”
- “The world is a thing she thinks she can change”
-“There’s more than one way to be a good person, you know”
-“Maybe you just have to concentrate on the things you can change”
- “The world is a thing she thinks she can change”
-“There’s more than one way to be a good person, you know”
-“Maybe you just have to concentrate on the things you can change”
left this one until last because I actually have a bracelet with part of this quote on (which is, apparently, ridiculously hard to get a photo of): “I wonder if this is how she used to feel. Small and sad and angry and powerful all at the same time.”
ok I’ll shut up now but like, basically, read this book. I love it endlessly. thank u for coming to my ted talk.
