I gave blood today. Before going, I’d been wondering how safe it was, so wanted to share some things I observed in case it helps anyone else decide whether to sign up.

H/t to @cbaskauf whose post doing the same helped me
The initial line was outdoors. There were chairs 6 feet apart but everyone stood. About half the donors wore masks. All staff/volunteers wore masks & gloves.
They took temperatures to get inside. They checked ID, then wiped down my driver’s license (definitely a first for my grubby little ID).
The chairs in the waiting area were spaced apart. Each time someone got up, someone wiped the chair down.
Next, screening, including another temp check. You can speed up the process by answering questions beforehand online.

Signing my name required touching a screen. The woman told me they wipe it down btwn users but offered sanitizer too.
I also saw them wiping down the tables where we lay down.
Hope that’s helpful to someone.

Thanks to the staff and volunteers from @RedCrossBloodCT.

A donor next to me thanked the phlebotomist for volunteering to help. The phlebotomist deflected the praise, saying she’s paid staff. But they’re still doing good, needed work. Thank you!
