If you listened to United Weekly on @1017theteam either of the past two weeks, you heard my vision of what the @USLChampionship should do moving forward if play resumes in 2020. This could even go along to future seasons. The vision is breaking the USL-C up into divisions. 1/?
Those divisions would be regionally based. Teams would play a home and away against everyone in their division, and a home and away against another complete division. The teams would then play either at or host a third division but only once (home or away). 2/?
This would give most teams 28 games, 14 home/14 away except for the division with 5 teams. All but one division will have 6 teams. 3/?
So how would the divisions look? Well...

USL Northwest
Tacoma
Portland
Sacramento
Reno
Real Monarchs
Colorado Springs

USL West
Los Dos
Orange County SC
San Diego
Las Vegas
Phoenix
New Mexico

4/?
USL Southwest
Oklahoma City
Tulsa
El Paso
Austin
San Antonio
RGV

USL Central
Memphis
Birmingham
Sporting KC2
St. Louis
Indianapolis
Louisville

5/?
USL Northeast
Hartford
Baby Bulls
Philly Union 2
Pittsburgh
Loudoun

USL Southeast
Atlanta 2
Miami
Tampa Bay
Charleston
North Carolina
Charlotte

6/?
So lets say the USL West is paired with the USL Southwest and Central. USL West teams would play home/away against their full division, home and away against the USL Southwest, and either home or away against the USL Central.

I know one concern is about some divisions are tougher than others. This is the case with almost every sport. Look how weak the NFC East is in the NFL and how strong the AL East is in MLB. This will give teams the opportunity to try and improve their teams for postseason.

9/?
Another advantage is the "inter-league" play. It give a chance to see teams or visit cities that you wouldn't normally get in the east/west system we have now. And with the regional system, you can now afford to travel to those other games.

10/?
About the unbalanced division play, next season teams would play a reverse of the games they played the season before. Ex. if you played at STL last season, you host STL this season. After two years divisions switch it up. USL West vs USL Northeast.

11/?
What about teams that are leaving? STL and SAC are heading to MLS. You replace those teams with expansion teams. Baltimore, Boise, Madison, Queens, and so on. After a point, Pro/rel will be required, but that makes this a lot more interesting. (Haven't thought that far)

12/?
Thoughts?
