Set goals. Things you want to accomplish before going back to work, in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years. Then write down what you need to do to achieve them.
Carve out time each day or each week to start working on them. Make adjustments. Change your mindset. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it.
Inform yourself. Learn more about the things you want for your future. Want to buy a house? Find out the opportunities out there for you to do so. Want to have multiple forms of income? Find out how to do that without breaking the bank first.
Tell someone your plans. Tell them to hold you accountable. When you start slipping and losing focus (it’ll happen and that’s okay) they can help get you back on track.
Find a mentor or a buddy to do it with. A mentor can help lead you and teach you from their mistakes and successes. A buddy can go through this process with you, possibly become a business partner.
Don’t be discouraged by challenges or when things aren’t going as planned. Be realistic about your plans. Adjustments as you go along are okay. Be happy that you’re facing challenges. Embrace them as growing pains.
Set reminders for why you’re doing this. Keep something that you see often that keeps you motivated.
Don’t get stuck. People change. Ideas change. If you no longer want something for your future, cross it off. Take your experiences as lessons learned and apply it to something else.
