So yesterday @federicollach and I tried out some double bass/accordion duo stuff using Reaper/Ninjam!
I had written a 2- or 3-part canon that I was eager to try out (here's a hypothetical brass trio version) https://soundcloud.com/piesaac/isolation-canon
The deal with Ninjam is that you can play together remotely but everyone hears everyone else at a fixed delay, usually 2 bars. If you can deal with that, it sounds better than stuff like Zoom where immediacy comes at the expense of sound quality and consistency
That means that with stuff like canons, if both players start at the same time, each player will hear themself as the "lead" voice in the canon, with the other player 2 bars behind! Even though they are really playing in unison!!
But how to coordinate starting together, if everything is delayed? Here was my solution: The first player plays 3 extra bars, and the second player comes in after hearing the first bar. 2 bar delay + 1 bar "pickup" = 3 extra bars
Anyway, it works!! If anyone else wants to try it, here's materials for my Isolation Canon. Of course, other canons should hypothetically work too https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gRjz28TTkWOAR4y5tgSsMcM1KI_fuxNn
If anyone could use help setting up Ninjam/Reaper I'm up for that too! It's fun when you get it working and I plan to do some more stuff with it https://www.cockos.com/ninjam/
