Zionists love to pretend that zionism is a permanent and immovable fixture in Judaism’s past, present, and future. However, it is not.

So, here’s a thread of things that are older than the zionist movement:

Theodore Herzl organized the First Zionist Congress in 1897. This is generally recognized as the starting point of the political Zionist movement.

Dishwashers, which were invented in in the mid 1800’s, are older than zionism.

The world’s first traffic light was installed in 1868. This means that traffic lights are about 30 years older than zionism.

Nathan Ames, a patent attorney from Saugus, Massachusetts, is credited with patenting the first "escalator" in 1859. This means that, you guessed it, escalators are older than zionism!

Coca-cola was first created in 1886, making coca-cola about a decade older than zionism.

Wondering how people kept food cold before zionism? No need to worry! The refrigerator was built in the mid 1800’s meaning food was kept cold in meat-packing houses and breweries for a few decades before zionism existed.

How about baseball? Surely zionism will be older than baseball?!

Nope! The official rules of what we, today, understand as Baseball were codified in 1845, making baseball about half a century older than zionism!

What could people do if they had dust or dirt on their floors before zionism if they didn’t want to use a broom?

Well, the vacuum was invented in the mid 1800’s making vacuums older than zionism.

The zohar, another foundational Jewish text, appeared in the 13th century. Centuries before zionism existed.

Jews have been celebrating shabbos, lighting candles, eating challah, gathering in community, learning and loving together for thousands and thousands of years before zionism was even a thought!

zionism has not existed for even 10% of Jewish history!!

We must stop buying into the idea that zionism is and will always be a movement within the Jewish world. Jews can live without zionism. Jews will again live without zionism.
