Furlough Thread!
So Liverpool placing staff on Furlough has created quite the stir today on this platform and a lot of negativity has gone their way, now I may have contrasting views to many but maybe this is the way I see it that most don’t. Controversial probably đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™‚ïž
The fact LFC have placed staff on furlough isn’t ideal given how the club prides itself on people values and socialism and given they are a hugely rich club and announced recently big profits it isn’t a good look to now seek government help to pay staff.
First of all they are a business and in this current climate they are not making money through several revenue streams and as any business knows this isn’t good how do they address this, well the government has a scheme set up to assist paying staff and retain them,
So why shouldn’t they be allowed to use the scheme because they make a lot of money? So do other huge companies is so much fuss being made about them? I don’t know if it is, maybe because this is local I see more negative press, but it’s happening nationwide, Virgin as 1 example
The staff that are more then likely on furlough are retail, match day and possibly a few others I am guessing they rely on these jobs and they aren’t working so why shouldn’t as a business LFC use the scheme like many other businesses have done?
Also LFC have agreed to make up the wages to 100% because they are first of all able to, and secondly looking after staff IMO when again a lot of other companies who financially can afford to are not, Spurs, Sports Direct, Weatherspoons just 3 examples.
The government made a target of PL footballers yesterday to take pay cuts, why just them? Why not other wealthy sports industries? F1? Boxing? Where global icons are earning millions. PL footballers pay a lot on tax 45% which is a hell of a lot and this is being overlooked
Am not defending the fact they earn a lot, I don’t agree at all with this but taking huge pay cuts would then also mean less PAYE tax earnings for the government on their wages, just a thought. So when they are promising money everywhere this is a revenue they might want to keep
Also is this not possibly the clubs fighting back since the players and clubs where made targets yesterday, the fact they pay so much into the system then why shouldn’t they use it to their advantage? Again just a thought.
Finally, do I think it’s right what LFC have done? NOT REALLY, but I have put my views out there as to why they might of. And at least they have topped up the wages of the staff to 100%
