Humans on Tattoine are colonizers. Native inhabitants include the Sand People (called Tusken Raiders) and Jawas.
The SP live separately, are nomadic, and travel throughout Tattoine and only attack when threatened, or need supplies, or to warn/fight the colonizers
In Legends, it& #39;s shown that SP view water as Sacred. There& #39;s so little of it, so it& #39;s holy to them. So if someone steals it, they deserve punishment because they& #39;re stealing their key to life.

Remember what Luke& #39;s family was?

Moisture Farmers. Or, say, Water Capitalists.
As the humans advance on their land, the SP react in violence (rightfully so). While humans who inhabit Tatooine assume an arrogant role of higher status, by calling the SP primitive or sav*ge.
Ben Kenobi hates them :
Luke hates them, because his uncle Owen hates them. Owen& #39;s father Was Criegg Lars who, as revealed in III, married Shmi Skywalker.

Shmi was kidnapped and beaten by the Sand People presumably as war hostage / cultural revenge
Criegg Lars: "Those Tuskens walk like men but theyre vicious, mindless monsters."
Anakin, fueled by anger, revenge, and an unconcern for "primitive" species as taught to him by the Force Police (The Jedi. That& #39;s another thread), murders an entire village. Instead of rescuing and leaving, he visibly turns to the dark side
This act of violence further pushes him, leading him to eventually enact the same violence against members of his own species
So in the Skywalkers mind, the SP murdered Anakin& #39;s mom, which obviously helped push him to the dark side. In a way, they blame Anakin& #39;s own failures on the Sand People. He hates the same people, he eventually hates Obi Wan, etc
So for YEARS, the franchise has only protrayed the SP as only villains, only evil, non-human, sub-human, and deserving of mistreatment.

Until a rogue Mandalorian, travelling with a tiny old green child, a few years after Anakin& #39;s death, treats them with respect
Not only does he know some of their language, but he knows their culture and customs. Most importantly, he sees and values them as human too. He trades some binoculars for passage of their land. He recognizes it as THEIR land. https://youtu.be/a5BQFA4ITA8 ">https://youtu.be/a5BQFA4IT...
Okay so why does this matter for me.

George Lucas said he was "inspired" to create the Tusken Raiders by Bedouins. He took nomadic Arab people and villainized them on screen. The hate towards SP was normalized in Star Wars. There is a ton of other racist-motivated stuff in SW
Be mindful of what a media is telling you about how to treat people different from you. It took 40 years before the SP were shown as human on screen. 40 years of audiences consuming "indigenous," "nomadic," and "non-white English speakers" as "bad." That matters.
