To the Reigning Kings of P-Pop
An Open Thread

There was once a time that I despised your kind: idol groups. I even created and maintained an FB page named “Save Earth. Kill Kpop” around 2011-2012. Fast forward to 2019, I am now a fanboy of an idol group brewed in my own soil.+

But the thing is: you're no ordinary group.

Contrary to what most people might initially say, you are no BTS. Not to discredit BTS of their phenomenal work, but they are kings after a long line of kings who reigned before them—TVXQ, Super Junior, BIGBANG, among others.

But you+

#SB19, you are the first of your names. XLR8 or other groups might've been here earlier, but none of them came close to properly establishing P-pop as a true and legitimate sub-genre of OPM. Because of the power you wield, OPM was left with no choice but to fully embrace you and+

acknowledge P-pop as its new and emerging face.

And the terrifying thing is: you're not yet at your peak. How do you want me to imagine all the endorsements and the shoots and appearances and the ridiculous amount of magazine covers and billboards you would grace in the future?+

Can I ever comprehend such level of pride and self-conceit when I witness how you take over this nation, Asia, and the world as legions of fans continue to pile up, YT reactors going nuts over a 30-second commercial, national fan chapters becoming real orgs with real advocacies?+

My A'TIN heart can only handle so much joy and pride and fulfillment, but then again: you're no ordinary group.

You guys will always want to share your dreams with everyone.

And alam mo yun? Parang minsan naiisip ko, and unfair para sa inyo, kasi yung mga susunod sa inyo, di+

na sila masyadong mahihirapan. Kasi, nailatag niyo na ng sobrang tibay yung foundation eh. Parang minsan, naiisip ko lang, dapat kayo muna. Lahat muna, sa inyo lang dapat.

Pero, SB19 kayo eh.

You are always kind and selfless and compassionate about the feelings and dreams and+

aspirations of others.

And you know what? More than the chart-topping albums, the sold-out stadiums & arenas, the multi-million peso endorsements, all the material successes—the one thing I will always be proud of as an A'TIN is your success as an individual and as a Filipino.+

That you paved the way for other P-pop artists to grow and be known and acknowledged at long last. That you unselfishly promoted the whole genre you pioneered at and wanted it to be an instrument to lift the quality of life in this nation... wow.

You guys are no ordinary group.+

And I am in full conviction that all the other groups that will follow suit and will walk on the path which you guys have carved for them WILL pay their respects to you, SB19. For you have sent a ripple, an unyielding message and battle cry saying WE WILL NOT BE LEFT UNNOTICED.+

They will always look up to you, and so do we,

Sejun, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin...

For you are the Kings of P-pop—now and forever.
