I used Omegle since this noon, (Yes, Omegle) and I had the Philippines as tag in order for me to talk to other Filipinos.
I wanted to talk to people about what their views on the current situation. (Basta yun)
Trust me it was a struggle. ++

My expectations were low, because I know most of the people there use it for "stuff" I don& #39;t want to talk about.
I searched for people actually willing to talk so I sent
"Debate tayo"
As a form of invitation that I actually wanted to talk about something that involves arguing

To my surprise, I managed to talk to people. (I honestly can& #39;t believe merely talking to people felt this much of an accomplishment than ever before

but then anyways...
but then anyways...
I persuaded people to stay and talk to me for a while. Some seemed really into the idea of debating and talking about the current issues.
The only problem is, there willingness to talk is almost the opposite of their knowledge of the current situation.

To be fair, there were a handful of people that were fairly knowledgeable about the issues and has their own views and opinion about it. I think they were good, regardless whether or not they& #39;re "political right or wrong" in my opinion (at least diba may opinion).
However, the majority of the people I have managed to talk to are either unaware of what& #39;s happening in the news or doesn& #39;t care at all.
I was extremely bothered by this.

That predicament didn& #39;t stop me of educating those people. I tried to unbiasedly explain the situation and made them react on their own. I also asked them probing questions that go against their constructed opinions to make them think if it& #39;s right.
Most of the people I chatted with turned neutral, meaning they manage to see what& #39;s wrong with the government and the arguments of the opposition as well.
I never expected to make a thread out of this, but I had the privilege to reflect on this, and see how horrible things have become in our country.
It& #39;s easy to blame the wrongs of the government, the rich, or the opposition because all eyes are focused on them. ++

But more often than not we forget to look at ourselves, and evaluate if our beliefs are as good as we think it is.
"We shout, proclaim, and protest that these beliefs are RIGHT."
Have we tried to understand the other side of the story? Tumingin na ba tayo sa kabilang dulo?

"We protest our beliefs because it& #39;s our inherent right to do so. We protest because we feel it& #39;s an obligation. We protest because we want the people to wake up from their blind beliefs."
Pero nagising nga ba ang dapat gisingin?

Yeah sure, you might have 10k+ likes, 10k+shares, and tons of supportive comments on your post.
None of those matter, because those people share the same belief as you.
You are not reaching the hearts of the truly uninformed, "the privileged," or the people who oppose you. ++

All your doing is fanning oxygen to the flame. Making the sides angrier at each other.
The purpose of discourse is to see the differences in our beliefs and somewhat find a middleground to improve upon, or solve the problem at hand.

I& #39;m not discouraging you to not share your opinions. It& #39;s actually the opposite.
I want you to share your opinion, see what& #39;s good with it and what& #39;s not. At the same time, understand the people who don& #39;t have the same values as you do.

I actually think protest especially when done right, and at the right time, is key to a country& #39;s development.
Protest is not a tool for education rather it& #39;s a tool for change.
If you want to make the people who are "uninformed" or "blinded by their beliefs" learn from you, then I suggest you talk to them empathetically.

Forcing your opinions, intellectually and non-intellectually insulting them, and thinking that it& #39;s a competition on who& #39;s ultimately right, will only result of making the discourse turn into a stressful fight, which makes the you talking to them useless anyways.
If you don& #39;t think you don& #39;t have the mental and emotional capacity for a discourse. Don& #39;t bother.
If you& #39;re egotistic and too self-centered to listen to opposing arguments. Don& #39;t bother.
You& #39;re just making yourself look like a clown.

If you& #39;re guilty of doing those things, I find absolutely no problem with it. You control your actions, thus control the consequences of your actions (if proper anticipation is met).
I think differences in opinion is essential because it provides "check and balance".
It& #39;s okay to have friends and family that oppose your beliefs, because it& #39;s not your obligation to make them know what& #39;s "politically right and wrong" it& #39;s theirs.

This also does not mean that we don& #39;t try to empathetically share our opinions. It may not be an obligation but it& #39;s an act that shows your morality.
Nothing beats the feeling of learning from someone and knowing that the person you shared your thoughts with learned from you.

And all that from Omegle.
