In our village, people are crossing the street to avoid each other. Not in a "oh shite they might have it!" Way but with bows, courtesies, tipping of hats, waves, salutes and even a few blown kisses. 1/
I was in the shop earlier and someone asked me to buy a 4 pinter of milk for their neighbour because they could only get 1 & they needed to get some for themselves. We had an awkward exchange outside the shop because I refused the money, put the milk on the ground & backed off 2/
He shouted after me "thank you lovey!" I waved.
There were some kids outside our house on their bikes about 10ft apart having a conversation. Respecting the distancing. 3/
Neighbours have spoken to each other from across the street. Shouting things like "HAVE YOU GOT MILK?"
"I'M GOING TO THE SHOP. FO YOU NEED ANYTHING?" 4/
Notes have been put through doors offering help. Pictures of rainbows & tributes to the NHS have been put up in windows. 5/
One man is out sorting the grass verges outside people's houses. Sowing grass seeds & putting down bark chippings around the trees. 6/
Someone has cleaned the war memorial & laid fresh flowers.
Someone has put old bikes against a tree with a sign saying "free to anyone who needs them for excerise" 7/
I have loved this village ever since I moved here as a child. In the past few weeks I have come to appreciate it for what it is. A community. Regardless of how you voted, where you come from & who you are. They have come together as one. 8/
If one thing comes out of this horror, I hope it is this that remains. The sense of community & support. This crisis has humbled us all & made us feel helpless in the face of adversity. But it has made heros out of so many in it's wake. 9/
So stay home if you can. Support your neighbours. Try & have a laugh where you can. Take pleasure in the small things. Have a cry if you need to. We will get through this but we need to do it together. End. Xxxx
