You're probably seeing a lot of memories about the 1983 @marchmadness championship game, since today is the -- uses calculator -- 37th anniversary of @PackMensBball win over @UHCougarMBK. But here's a story you might not know, unless you've read #WhenMarchWentMad.
It's one of my favorites. The night before the title game, four Wolfpack reserves went out to observe the nightlife in Albuquerque's #OldTown. Serendipitously, they ran into the Houston cheerleaders in a downtown cantina.
They eventually retired to the Ramada Inn North, where the Wolfpack players -- none of which played in the title game -- had a bathtub full of beer on ice. They had a blast together, and one of those relationships lasted more than a year.
So throughout the title game, every time the Cougar cheerleaders would run onto the court in front of the Wolfpack bench, "They would wink at us and say, 'We're cheering for you guys,'" one of the players said.
The @NCSUCheer squad had a different tactic. "We spent most of our time with the camera guys from CBS," one of them said. "We wanted to make sure we got on television."
How could anyone think State was going to lose when it had two sets of cheerleaders rooting for them in the championship game?
