Yes, it's great to focus on food security but at State level #lka policy focus should be on fixing supply chains, building warehouses with cooling systems, expanding capacity of State enterprises like Milco and allowing them to operate independently #COVID19LK #SriLanka

Reduce post harvest losses (estimated to be as high as 35%), infuse more technology into agriculture, have a comprehensive policy against climate change and implement it properly, empower farmers and their communities.

Use data to improve harvest projections and match them with consumer demand, ensure farmers get better returns and are more involved in policy making and not just used as lucrative vote blocks. I'm sure there are more steps that can be taken than what is listed above.

This is exactly why there should be a widespread discussion on food security that moves beyond home gardens and the fertiliser subsidy to deal with actual solutions for stakeholders and can be scaled up to benefit both farmers and consumers. #SriLanka needs and deserves it.

For too long the very people who supply us with our food have remained the least food secure. Changing that is also at the core of creating a more inclusive economy.
