A thread on Billy Gilmour - Unearthing A Rough Diamond..

-> He’s the got the attributes of Xavi, Iniesta and Jorginho combined!! He’s destined for Greatness & could save us millions of pounds.

• Gilmour is a player with a raw talent that could develop just into whatever player he wants, but his superb vision, tackles, reading of the game, great positioning & ability to control matches makes him a rare gem among his peers & hence; why i compared him to the greats!!
-> On Xavi’s comparison; He’s a diminutive, combat, and technically skilled player, with a signature move involving him performing a 360 degree turn, a feint that allowed him to move away from opposing player, retain possession, & it gives him space & time to think of what next.
-> When you watch him against Liverpool in the FA Cup, he was immense and showed a confident display. He passed with authority, controlled space around him and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in defensively to fantastic effect. Even the fans chanted “There’s only one Billy Gilmour”
-> On Iniesta Comparison: He’s a diminutive midfielder known for his passing, gliding dribbling, vision and movement. His signature move is where he quickly pushes the ball from his right foot to his left & vice versa which takes the ball away from his opponent, allowing him...
-> ..to get out of tight situations. He’s very short (5ft7inch) and slender in stature but he’s got a very good football intelligence. Whenever he receives the ball, he’s always aware of who is around him and knows what next to do immediately.
-> Gilmour thinks with his quick feet, he knows before his opponent where the ball is going to go to and that gives him the advantage. He doesn’t hold onto the ball too much so as not to lose it. And keeps drawing foul from his opponents.
-> On Jorginho comparison: He’s also known for his composure and versatility. He’s got high work rate, technique, football intelligence, ability to breakdown possession, vision and long/short passing accuracy.
• Overall, Although Gilmour is 18yrs old but he has shown maturity to play for a big team in a difficult league professionally w/o fear of opposition. He’s shown he is a leader, has good touches, and great positional awareness to play in multi-positions in midfield.
Even with his small stature, he’s not afraid to put a foot in and challenge for a lose ball or when defending. He shield his back four when playing in the pivot, ability to glide past opponent easily and has great positional awareness. He reads the game even better & always calm.
With time, he could send Jorginho parking but before then; i think he should learn more from him and develop his own game even further.

- He’s more a Xavi-type of player to me and if he could do more than half of what Xavi achieved, then we’ve got ourselves a great Footballer!
A midfield of;

- Kovacic - Gilmour - Loftus Cheek will be great to see next season.

- Kudos to Lampard for trusting and helping these kids to realize there potentials.

- Mbappe’s, Messi’s, Ronaldo’s, Hazard’s started from very early age. Look at them today.
