Benefits of Lowering your gaze [Thread]

1. Lowering the gaze is a means of purification, success and attaining paradise

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.

-Sura An-Nur, Ayah 30

Qatada as Bukhari reports in his Sahih (Rahimahumallah) said regarding this verse "Meaning: (lowering their gaze) from that which is impermissible for them (to look at)."

From this verse we understand that lowering the gaze is purer for the believers and their hearts.

We know from other verses in the Qur'an that this is linked to success and attaining paradise

Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds).

-Sura Ash-Shams, Ayah 9

'Adn (Edn) Paradise, under which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever: such is the reward of those who purify themselves [(by abstaining from all kinds of sins and evil deeds) which Allah has forbidden and by doing all that which Allah has ordained)]

-Sura Ta-Ha, Ayah 76

the prophet ﷺ said " three their eyes will not see the hellfire on the day of judgement: An eye that weeped from the fear of Allah, An eye that guarded and protect for the sake of Allah, An eye that lower it's from that which Allah forbade." {As-silsilatus Saheeha}

3. Lowering your gaze grants you the love of Allah

Mujahid ibn Jabr as ibn Jawzy (rahimahumallah) mentions in his book Thammul Hawaa said "Lowering the gaze from the prohibitions of Allah grants the love of Allah."

4. Lowering your gaze grants you Modesty

As per the words of our prophet ﷺ when he heard a man urging his brother to be modest. He said: 'Indeed modesty is a branch of faith.'" ibn Maajah {Sahih}

and as Ibn Umar (May Allah pleased with him) as reported in Musannaf ibn Abi Shayba said regarding this hadith " Modesty and Imaan were coupled together so if one is lifted and removed the same will occur to the other"

Since lowering the gaze is one of the characteristics of the believers, there is a strong link between it and modesty, whereby if one lowers his gaze his modesty will increase and vice-versa.
