Discovering New Wave Music: A Thread

Since we are in #circuitbreaker mode and responsibly vegging at home, let's have some fun. I've always made fun of my students' (poor) music (K-Pop 😬) tastes. So what (good) music do I listen to?

Let's talk a little #NewWave. 👇
New Wave is a fairly nebulous category of modern music most agree started in the late 70s and peaked in the 80s. This includes but is not limited to post-punk, synthpop and electronic music. In this thread, I hope to feature some lesser-played but nonetheless rocking tracks!
Let's start with The Fixx's Saved by Zero (1983)!

Released in 1983, this was the first single from their second album. Film buffs, look out for the Citizen Kane references!

Although New Wave is largely more popular in the UK, there are kick-ass artists from across the pond.

Gaga probably learnt a thing or two from Dale Bozzio in Missing Person's Words released in 1982.

Sticking Stateside, the next group hails from California but calls themselves Berlin. You may remember them as the folks who sang Take My Breath Away(Meh).

My favourite #BerlinOfficialBand track is Like Flames (1987). Imagine chanting this in a stadium.
King's Love and Pride is their biggest hit (Number 2 in the UK!) but strangely, this song seems to be missing from many a New Wave playlist.

Paul King's mullet is worth the price of admission.
Speaking of royalty (and queens), Dead or Alive is New Wave nobility, thanks to You Spin Me Round and the glorious Pete Burns (RIP).

Pete Burns is just as irrepressible in Brand New Lover, lamenting on his boredom in emotional contentment. #DeadOrAlive
