Likewise, Trump is copy, as Nora Ephron said, and ratings. Who wants a sane president over a freak show? Just look at the buzz around Tiger King. People respect BBC’s Planet Earth, but “OMG, have you watched Tiger King?”

Out here, people are getting sick and dying. Our lives have completely changed because the WH bungled the response to COVID-19. But hey, he’s the president. Let’s stay up on our ledges and observe how he handles things at arms’ length.

Just once, I would love for a WH correspondent to get up at a briefing and lose it. Just rip into him for his handling of this. Have an honest to God tirade on behalf of those of us who hear every day that someone we know is on a vent. (A friend of mine in Detroit knows 30.)

It would have to be some who puts the country over their credentials. I do fear the WH would just kick everyone out if it happened, so don’t expect support from the WHCA. But I’d send you a medal.
