Cheltenham Festival truthers on here have some interesting talking points.

"It should have been canceled" is the one I'll agree with but there's some morally obtuse arguments being made on the rest of it.
"They shouldn't have been allowed go".

One way to enforce that - close every airport, ferry port and the border on March 8th. No European country did this (for good reason). Norway came closest on the 16th but even they kept Swedish border open & flights running for citizens.
Efficacy of airport closures in epidemics been researched (can cut infection rates by ~18%) but people are telling me it would have "prevented any cases" here:

a) NO, false b) even if it were possible, you'd have to shut the country for 18 months. No vaccine coming in 2020.
-"250,000 people attended the Festival."

No, they didn't. The total attendance was 250,000 over 4 days, very different to 250,000 unique people. Just like watching Baby Shark 57 times with a toddler (guilty) doesn't mean 57 people watched it. Most people made a week of it.
"So many people packed in together, they became super-spreaders".

Little evidence of that in Ireland - yet - but if you're worried about big numbers of people in enclosed spaces, wait until you hear all about "The London Tube".

2 Million people a day rammed into small spaces.
"We shouldn't have let them come home".

Aside from being legally questionable and morally repugnant - What about all the Irish in London? They should have been banned too?

Tens of thousands of Irish people come home from UK for Paddy's Day/weekend every year.
In terms of spread of clusters witnessed in the UK, the London Tube will end up responsible for exponentially more than Cheltenham. In terms of risk assessment, I'd be more worried about Irish who use the Northern Line 4 times a day than Cheltenham goers.

Ban London Irish too?
On a basic test of morality though, arguing UK be lumped with 20,000 Irish on the basis they might spread it - just awful.

So we've gone from "Ireland unfree shall never be at peace" to "If you're gonna spread a virus, stay in Gloucestershire good lad"?

Ireland is their home.
The precedent it would set for any country to mass-refuse re-entry of their citizens on Public Health grounds is pretty desperate too. You're essentially arguing for risking another countries citizens instead of taking care of your own.

Irish citizen = Irish responsibility.
