Richarlison caused shocked around the football world after his $40 million move to Everton but has subsequently proved that he is worth every penny. Today I’m going to look at his qualities and see how he could fit if he transfers to Chelsea. Let's look at his profile below.
What I like about the 22-year-old is his versatility. We have seen him feature all across the front 3 this season where he was able to still put in quality performances regardless of where he was deployed. This enables him to rotate across the front 3 and always get minutes.
The 22-year-old has a strong upper body and excellent acceleration, enabling him to utilise his intelligence to linkup the play. He isn’t tall but has a phenomenal reach making him a threat in the air seen in his 4 headed goals this season. He also has excellent aerobic capacity.
Finishing

Richarlison is an excellent goal scorer conveyed through his 10 goals this season. This is a combination of two things, his versatile technique and his outstanding movement. Richarlison possesses a rare ability to score goals in a multitude of ways, a valuable asset.
He tends to favour a sided footed shot placing the ball but still utilises it in a variety of ways, including curving the ball or hitting it low and hard. He generally opens up his body and aims for the far bottom corner. He also organises his body well before receiving the ball.
This enables him to decrease the time between the pass being collected and the shot being taken. His varied shooting tech and his good body organisation creates a prolific finisher. This is conveyed by him overperforming his xG by 41% since he joined Everton.
He also has excellent movement; many of his goals have come from making intelligent runs into the box to give himself maximum opportunity to finish. His xG/per shot is 0.10, but due to his decision making and patience, that doesn’t tell the whole story.
He often attempts reckless longshots when there are better options, a weakness of his game. He has failed to score a single one. Lampard prefers a slightly more patient build-up and wants to get the ball out wide so he must remain more disciplined and not attempt wonder goal.
This weakness decreases his xG/per shot but doesn’t indicate bad movement. Watching his goals, he times his runs very well so he has sufficient time to receive the ball. Overall, his movement is excellent; this, combined with his superb finishing, makes him a huge goal threat.
One of Richarlison’s stand out traits is his aptitude and ability to defend. He has 4.03 successful defensive duels per90 and has a 69% success rate, the best in the premier league. For comparison, Chelsea’s attackers average 2.5 successful defensive duels per90.
This would be crucial in Lampard’s setup where pressing is emphasised, his ability to press intelligently and at the right time could see him become a pressing trigger, a role Mount currently has. He also is willing to track runners conveyed his 2.4 interceptions per90.
Richarlison’s technical ability is varied. His dribbling is excellent; however, his passing does need work. His dribbling is direct, controlled and has a bit of Brazilian flair. He uses his agility and both feet to continually change directions, beating his man 62% of the time.
He also uses his upper body strength to resist the defenders attempting to overpower him physically. He averages 2.2 progressive runs per90, similar to Salah, conveying his ability to identify space. His dribbling ability allows him to progress the ball and creates chances.
However, his passing is slightly less impressive. His 67.63% completion rate often results in attacks being wasted. Although, his positioning is still excellent; he can drop deeper and link up the offence to a very high standard and can provide tactical versatility to Lampard.
Another positive of his passing is his ability to release the ball at the right time due to his excellent vision. I advise him to keep things simple rather than go for the killer ball. If he manages to improve technically, he will be able to put up some respectable assist figures
Richarlison would be an exceptional purchase for Chelsea or any top club. He is a versatile forward with excellent finishing instincts, movement and dribbling. He does need to remain more consistent when passing and take less long shots, but he will improve given he is only 22.
He won’t come cheap as Everton will want to make a good profit on the 40 million sum, but he should be obtainable for $70-85mil. Given his potential to become one of the best forwards in Europe, I think the Brazilian would be worth that fee.
He could rotate with Abraham and be a very good backup but still be utilised on the wing if Lampard opts for the Englishman. This ensures Chelsea have quality striker depth but doesn't have an expensive signing wasted on the bench. He also is a hard worker and a great mentality.
On the pitch, he is a warrior and will not shy away from any challenge. He has high standards and hates losing. This is character Chelsea need in the games when things aren't going there way. Off the pitch, he is a lovely guy and a good leader who stays grounded.
Overall an excellent signing, who would be a great fit tactically, technically and in the dressing room.
