Let's start with the positives. There are no concerns about Pryor's anchor, as we've seen in 1-on-1's in training camp. You're not going to straight bull rush him. Here he is in a 1-on-1 situation protecting in his own end zone. In all the videos in this thread, Pryor is the RG.
Jeff Stoutland always comments on Pryor’s powerful 11-inch hands. Once he gets a hold of you, it’s game over. You see that here against former 3-time Georgia state wrestling state champion Dalvin Tomlinson.
And just his size is impressive. He's listed at 6'7, 332, but I would guess he's probably closer to 350. If he gets a head of steam and makes solid contact with you, you don't want to be on the other end of that. This is 6'5, 275-pound Ziggy Ansah he's flattening here.
On that same size theme, he's going to have around 130 pounds on some of these LB/S hybrid types in the run game. Here, Deone Bucannon (29) wants no part of Pryor.
And he can also move the big boys as well. Here's a little jolt that knocks 342-pound Dexter Lawrence back and off-balance, allowing Big V to move him more easily. Pryor is then also able to get a piece of Bucannon.
And finally on the size/power front, here's Pryor and Big V moving a DE more than 5 yards off the LOS.
Onto the bad. While he's able to move defenders if he's able to hit them, Pryor also has his share of whiffs because he doesn't play with good balance. Like here in the run game...
Or here on the inside move in pass pro...
He's also late to recognize blitzes/stunts/twists/etc. at times, and when that happens, his feet aren't quick enough to recover. Like here...
Or here...
And then just generally speaking, he’s going to struggle against speed. The Giants were able to set up a 1-on-1 against Pryor with speed rusher Lorenzo Carter, and Carter is just too fast for Pryor to handle.
And the screen game? Forget it.
So if you woke up this morning and thought, "Hey I wonder how Matt Pryor looked in the 3 games he played in last year," there you have it.
