Matts guide to kegging Hazy IPA @BrewJunction. 1st clean and sanitise your keg, you’ll want to fill the keg to the brim to ensure that there is no oxygen in the keg.
Next I like to hook the keg up to my Kegerator and use CO2 to push all of the sanitiser out of the keg, at the same time this cleans/sanitises the taps as well as ensuring a slow push to minimise the amount of sanitiser remaining in the keg.
Next to clean the FV, I dump off any remaining beer and hop residue. Take a deep sniff in and you’ll be greeted with citrus and mango and pine juiciness 🍊 🥭 🌲
Close all the taps on the FV and hook the transfer line up to the out post on the keg. What we need to do here to transfer the beer is to have more CO2 pressure in the FV than the keg. So slowly slowly vent the CO2 in the keg using the purge valve until the it’s faintly hissing.
Next hook up your CO2 line to the FV, make sure you purge the line first as this will have O2 in it, do this by adding some CO2 pressure to the line then depress the pin in the coupler to vent
Ensure you’ve sanitised all the transfer line and associated components then open the racking arm tap and depress the pin in the keg coupler to fill the line and push out any O2
Next apply pressure to the top of the FV using CO2 then open the tap on the FV and observe the beer flowing through the sight glass and in to the keg
During transfer the beer flow will likely slow as the CO2 in the keg becomes compressed and the pressures between the FV and keg balance, one again vent the keg until it’s barely hissing and beer flow will recommence. Here you can observe the half filled keg due to condensation
Now the keg is filled and ready to hook up to the gas to finish carbonating. Top tip is to wind on as much pressure as you need to for the finished beer before you hook up the keg, 13 PSI for this one
