I see Corbyn supporters making the same argument as Bernie fans do: ‘he was right’ and ‘we won the argument.’

In electoral politics, it does not matter if you are ‘right’ and the only way to ‘win’ an argument in a democracy is win the election.
Want to have the pleasure of ‘being right’?

Come join the experts, intellectuals and academics who feed into ideas, ideology, policy - directly or indirectly - and most often in that way so many of you hate: incrementalism
Want to win elections? Especially with policies that change the status quo?

Then reach out to more than your base. Plan for campaigns that aren’t just about folk who agree with you. Know that people vote for many reasons and for many the ‘argument’ (ie policy) may not matter
Oh btw twitter doesn’t reflect most voters on the ground who don’t care what the specific policies you’re offering.

They vote out of hope, greed, fear...they vote for more emotional reasons than policy.

And they don’t care about ideological purity.
We need complex discussions about progressive politics, to be able to recognise that ideological purity is not only unacceptable but undesirable, and work towards big umbrella mobilisation.

And we need them asap!
