One thing discouraged me about the Starmer speech. He is still a little stiff and hesitant. I wish he would learn the mistakes of Brown, accept that he's not going for the charisma powerhouse look, and lean into the gravitas.
Two things greatly encouraged me: The immediate, forceful statement on antisemitism and the comments on working with but also scrutinising govt. Got the balance and tone just right.
That last part particularly important, beyond the immediate moment. Shows a capacity for judging public mood and acting accordingly.
