In East Germany, the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. did not make the news until April 6. Here is the coverage from the SED national party organ Neues Deutschland.
On April 5, the East German news was almost totally devoted to the results of a plebiscite on the adoption of a new "socialist constitution" for the GDR, which likely meant that the news of MLK's killing was pushed back a day.
