Today is the first day of our
#VirtualMexicanRoadTrip

I will add to this thread as the trip progresses

We landed in Mexico City last night & are starting the day with a lush Mexican breakfast.

The Huevos Divorciados

Hhmuevos divorciados literally means divorced eggs

This dish includes two sunny side up fried eggs

One egg topped with green & cooling salsa
The other a red & spicy salsa, hence the name.

Accompanied by beans & sliced avocado

Next, we're visiting the Old toy shop museum

Roberto Kinoshita started collecting aged 10 & has filled a building in Mexico City with his toy collection

They range from 19thC to the '80s

The origin of the worm in Mezcal is believed to have started in 1940 when Jacobo Lozano Páez found larvae changed the taste of the agave & began adding it

The insect is evidence of the mezcal potency
To pickle the worm, there must be a high % of alcohol

Sal de Gusano (worm salt) is made with the larvae of a moth that’s found in agave plants used for mezcal & tequila production

If left to their own device, the larvae can eat all of the agave.
By removing them, it leaves more agave to convert to alcohol

My daughter asked why I am doing this virtual tour and adding it on Facebook too, as no one is really interested.

When I showed her how enraptured my dad was about it and how he sends me suggestions of where we should "visit" next, her heart melted.

Artist, Diego Rivera is well known for his marriage to Frida Kahlo, but his artistic genius should not be overshadowed.

Rivera remains one of the greatest muralists of all time.

The best place in the world to see his greatest works is Mexico City.
