Here is my take on Jeremy Corbyn's disastrous leadership, and the problems the party will encounter under its new leader, Sir Keir Starmer. THREAD.
When Corbyn was first elected as leader of the party, he promised a kinder, gentler politics. One based on humanity, care, and compassion.

Does the average Brit think that Labour is now a kinder, more caring organisation, following Corbyn's leadership? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-34392427/jeremy-corbyn-i-want-a-kinder-politics
Labour has a rich anti-discrimination tradition. Indeed, it has created bodies the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Under Corbyn, Labour joined the British National Party as the second party ever to be investigated for racism by the...Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Labour has historically portrayed itself as the natural party for Britain's minorities.

As well as polling terribly among British Jews, Labour witnessed the departure of Jewish politicians such as Dame Louise Ellman - who was an MP for 22 years, and a party member for 55 years.
Along with British Jews, under Corbyn's leadership, there has been a serious fraying of Labour's relations with British Indians.

Its racial identity politics has put off many British Indians - many of whom are driven and take pride in self-sufficiency. https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/02/20/the-lefts-problem-with-british-indians/
Labour’s - specifically Jeremy Corbyn’s - fraternisation with Islamist organisations may have put off a number of British voters of all faiths and ethnicities.

But this is likely to have been especially damaging among British Hindus of Gujarati origin. https://www.spiked-online.com/2019/12/03/corbyns-ties-with-islamists-cannot-be-ignored/
Fraternising with Islamist orgs, and being subject to EHRC investigation over allegations of institutional anti-Semitism, is not ideal.

Neither is becoming the second party to the Tories among white British working-class voters. Brexit played a role - but it is deeper than that.
The disconnect between chattering-class Guardianism and the culturally conservative attitudes of those in the provinces, worsened under Corbyn.

Obsessed with matters such as gender self-ID, and the endless virtue-signalling over issues such as immigration, crime, and terrorism.
The rise of open-borders cosmopolitanism within the Labour Party - packed to the rafters with global-villager Corbynista leftists - has set the party back no end.

Most British folk - including the "uneducated" white working classes - understand this 👇 https://www.spiked-online.com/2019/09/30/open-borders-and-social-democracy-dont-mix/
We now come to the 2019GE - one where Labour could be decisive on Kashmir but not on Brexit.

Its worst GE, in terms of seats, since 1935.

The crumbling of the red wall.

Losing seats to the Tories such as Bolsover, Bassetlaw, Bishop Auckland, Blyth Valley, Leigh, and Wrexham.
Blue Labour friends - including @PaulEmbery - recognise that new leader Sir Keir Starmer is not the person to win back lost seats in former coal and steel territory.

- Represents a North London seat
- Supported a second referendum
- Strong legal background
- Remarkably boring
Starmer represents the constituency of Holborn & St Pancras - voted 73.3% Remain.

Nice area - London's historic law district, contains Hatton Garden’s diamond boutiques, as well as endless cafes which cater to both white-collar workers and students from various universities.
Unfortunately, Starmer belongs to a completely different world to the voters he should be looking to win back in Labour's former red wall.

As does the PM - this is true.

But he was the side of many in that wall on a range of cultural issues - including Brexit and immigration.
Starmer's problem is that if he does try to firmly push back on pro-Corbyn/Momentum-like elements of the party, he is going to find himself under vicious attack.

Based on events in the last few years, he will be branded a sell-out, a closet Tory, a Zionist shill, a traitor etc.
Corbyn's leadership opened up many cans of worms.

I don't envy Starmer at all.

He is leading a battered party polling below 30%; one which is 163 seats behind a ruling Conservative Party polling above 50% in the middle of a national health crisis.

Best of luck to him. END.
