we all know the eponine vs Cosette argument and im going to play devils advocate here for just a second (pls don’t cancel me) but Katherine Steele mentioned this in a video once and found it interesting. (Thread)

we spend more time with eponine in the musical and we get to know her better than we ever know Cosette and there’s an established relationship between marius and eponine. even with that being said, Marius doesn’t owe eponine anything especially not a relationship-

i love both characters but it does kinda set up Cosette to fail when we don’t get to know Cosette that much and the only thing that we really know about Cosette is that she’s pretty and she gets the guy. she has grown up in an abusive household with thenadier’s after her mother -

died, her biological father abandoned them altogether and she still grew up to be this kind hearted, gentle, caring, loving person. she had to overcome that trauma and still turned out to be a decent person. i get that eponine is relatable - being friendzoned and loving someone -

who doesn’t love you back sucks but her being a good friend to Marius doesn’t mean that he has to love her. anyway this was based on points that @Kath_Steele Steele made in her video that were interesting
