I’ve been reading with growing concern about the fear that disabled people are experiencing at the moment and am delighted to put my name to this very balanced and clear statement. /1 https://twitter.com/chrishattoncedr/status/1246187280877961216">https://twitter.com/chrishatt...
As a medic I know that decisions have to be made in difficult and distressing situations and these have to be made based on the expected chance of success of a treatment for the patient. If a treatment is not going to work we shouldn’t be offering it. Simple right? /2
But the history and context are incredibly important here. If you are used to hearing about discrimination in healthcare settings against people like you; if you are used to having to fight to be treated equally; if people make quick judgements on your needs or quality of life /3
then it is a big ask to trust the judgement of any of us nurses and doctors when we are under extreme pressure. If this document helps even a little to make disabled people feel more secure and protected then it is well worth reading, retweeting and signing. /end
