One cool aspect of Japanese I enjoy is 四字熟語(よじじゅくご) or four-character phrases. In this thread, I'll introduce some of the more common ones.
Searching blindly, in the dark.
"Different mouths, same sound," unanimous.
Direct communication without words (sometimes found in long-term couples)
A once-in-a-lifetime encounter (every meeting is different).
Clear at a single glance.
An explosive situation (roughly "one touch, instant explosion").
Karma, retribution, just deserts.
Vanish like mist, melt away.
"Flowers, birds, wind, moon." The beauties of nature.
Add the finishing touches (roughly "add the pupils to the eyes of a picture of a dragon")
...I will add to this thread later
