The @AsiaSociety just released a letter calling for cooperation with #China on #COVID19. https://asiasociety.org/center-us-china-relations/saving-lives-america-china-and-around-world But I say, when a CCP bully demands cooperation after 100 years of abuse, the right thing to do is punch him in the nose and go your own way.
Opportunities for cooperation cannot be viewed with a lack of recent historical context. This Asia Society letter just amplifies the #CCP's soothing message of cooperation that is meant to attain appeasement after appeasement in the CCP's self-aggrandizing drive for power.
Appeasement in the face of incompetent aggression, like that of the CCP, is a signal of weakness and a green light for more aggression.
From the Asia Society letter: "Despite recent progress against the disease, China has much to answer for in its response to the coronavirus: its initial coverup, its continuing lack of transparency, its failure to cooperate fully with U.S. and international medical ..."
"...authorities, and its blatant propaganda campaign to shift the blame for the crisis to the United States." Good - but this is just an afterthought in a letter whose main point is about more US cooperation, that is, appeasement.
Why wasn't there a letter with the same signatories on each of the negative issues they detail? Why did the Asia Society only issue a letter when the call is for more cooperation, tantamount to appeasement?
The Asia Society, heavily funded by US corporations doing business in China, is here just using the pandemic as yet another platform on which to call for a cooperation that ignores the CCP's continuous history of aggression.
The Asia Society continues to hoist this platform of cooperation aloft despite its getting progressively heavier as the #CCP throws upon it stone after stone of human rights abuse against #Tibetans, #Uyghurs, and #HongKong. @hrichina @chrlcg
Who signed this letter? See below for some of them.
Kurt Campbell, who has a business consultancy called Asia Group, and who was part of US government negotiations that resulted in giving possession of Scarborough Shoal to China.
