A very serious British Academic said this about the UK death toll:

"Many people who die of Covid would have died anyway within a short period"

Talk about fundamentally missing the point. They wouldn't have died alone surrounded by doctors in protective gear, would they.
So what if a lot of these older people had COPD, heart disease or cancer and were near the end of life anyway?

Coronavirus strips them of their self-worth in dying and leaves behind tremendous emotional distress for families to try pick up the pieces - which is never easy.
I keep thinking about my dad's last days. He knew he was dying, nowhere near ready to die. Early 60's with a lot more to offer this life but his time was up.

Combed his hair every day before the palliative care nurses came in to see him.

Pride. Died how he lived.
These people aren't getting to die with that type of dignity. Surrounded by strangers in protective clothing, having their hand held by someone in latex gloves, or squinting into a phone trying to talk through drowning lungs to loved ones desperately trying to hold it together.
The virus doesn't even stop there, it keeps robbing them in death. Family and friends coming together to celebrate life; laughter, tears, and stories - sharing the crushing bad time by reminiscing on the good times.

Coronavirus yanks all of that away from families, too.
In the end, whether covid19 actually kills these people or whether cancer/heart disease was going to get them anyway, is missing the wood for the trees.

"Would have died anyway".

Not like this.
