that’s it, i’m becoming a part of the retail rant twt bc holy sh*t what the actual f*ck is wrong w some ppl? this covid crap is actually turning some into mad f*ckers! i’ve been bottling it up bc ik there’s more lovely people out there than bad, but someone needs to say it (1/?)
[please hear the sarcasm] suddenly, the new norm: abuse towards retail workers is ok! 😌 you can’t get what you want bc weird limitations and the employee is now confiscating your very important item 😕 congratulations, you are now entitled and have the right to abuse them (2/?)
and bc they think they’re so entitled, personalised attacks, rude remarks, intimidation and many other things is happening. and pigeonholing! ridiculous. i have seen people purposely avoiding asian employees? 🤨 you’ve interacted with an asian so you now have covid (3/?)
by that logic, you now have covid whenever you’ve consumed something made in asia 🧐 jfc asians are fine!!!! they’re very friendly. IF they can’t speak the language and/or aren’t fluent, they’ll still be very polite and smile bc it’s right, polite & barely takes any effort (4/?)
smiling and being polite is something anyone can do. even if someone’s covering their entire face, the soft crinkle in the eyes and slight shift of the material for what’s covering their face is a good enough sign that a smile has just been reciprocated 🙂 (5/?)
next point: supermarkets are now an arena bc ppl think fighting there is ok. clarification that i shouldn’t have to say: fighting in a supermarket is NOT ok, whether it’s verbal or physical. that not only distresses the bystanders but also the employees and those involved (6/?)
i will begin this with an acknowledgement; i understand people get very distressed bc they need that item and another person has it and refuses to give in. try peaceful negotiations. if you’re nice, they will be nice, i promise. try equal exchange of value? (cont.) (7/?)
you need item a and they need item b! you have item b and they don’t. try swapping? or explain your circumstances quickly bc ppl aren’t usually interested in a stranger’s life story. people are often sympathetic! communication is important in every relationship (8/?)
next point that ppl don’t understand: supermarkets have rules 😂 is that not obvious?
there are limitations on items so that it can be available for everyone. please don’t try to fight against it. employees have 0 control over those limits. stop hassling for 2 transactions (9/?)
following those rules is part of their job. by telling them to break those rules, you are essentially telling them to potentially
1) lose their job/ get into big trouble
2) let other people pick a bone with them and hassle them thinking they’ll also surpass the limitations
(10/?)
i’m running out of energy so i’m ending this thread soon but we’ve seen real footage of employees crying & the crazy fights that happen. all i’m asking is for everyone to be a decent human being or at least be that one person that brightens up their day after everything (11/?)
