Ok Labour a Twitter, I know you don’t want to hear this but no amount of wishing, hoping, or dreaming will make Jeremy Corbyn’s time as leader of your party anything less than an unmitigated disaster and you really ought to wake up to that fact.
Sure, the least likeable bit of your base might have been happy, or happy as their intrinsically miserable outlook can be, at the ideological purity of it all but the numbers do not lie and the Tories won their biggest majority since the 80s on his watch. That’s his record.
Now, you have a choice. You can continue this solipsistic navel-gazing or you can do what the British people demand of you and become a legitimate party of the modern left, a strong party of opposition, and a government-in-waiting. Anything less, or more of the same, is failure.
One more thing, get rid of the conspiracy thinking. The media didn’t conspire to keep Corbyn our of Downing Street and it doesn’t stand as one against the Labour Party. What happened is that journalists exposed issues, like antisemitism and Corbyn’s pals, and showed the country.
That, my friends, is being treated like adults by the press and if that process is still an issue for you then your problem is with press freedom itself...and is all the more sinister.
Why this thread? Well, because I want a functional and effective Labour Party to keep the Tories in check and nervous. Sadly, that’s not what we’ve got right now but there is the chance of it...if only you’re brave enough to grasp the opportunities that change will bring.
