Thread: Biggest Hysteria ever?

The mortality rates for Corona virus for people below 40 is 0.2% & upto 60 it's 1.3%. 95% of the deaths in Italy are of those above 60. 96% of those infected are recovering without hospitalization.

All these stats are for Western countries. The immunity system for Indian is believed to be better as we are exposed to various pathogens regularly. Out of 60k patients tested only 3.6% have tested positive, where as this number is 15% for US and 22% for Italy.

The rate of rise of new cases is markedly different for temperate countries as compared to tropic/subtropic countries. In top 20 countries by cases there only 2 countries that are tropical, Brazil at 16th place with 9k cases and Australia at 20th place with 5k cases.

In India even after a month a large number of cases are either imported(those who travelled abroad & got infected) or those infected due to Tablighi jamaat. Compared to how the growth rates exploded in US/ Italy, we have hardly shown signs of community spread.

We are entering summer which will be followed by monsoon. Data suggest virus is not as effective in high temperature and high humidity. As things stand it's not looking as bad as we feared 2 weeks back. The economic damage this lockdown is doing is huge.

Keep your mind open to all possibilities. Things can turn on a dime, narratives and headlines will change without advance notice. For all you know @SamitVartak is right when he sais this might turn out to be the biggest hysteria we have ever seen.
