CW// I love her so much so so so much and this is very messy because I wrote it under complicated circumstances and didn't proofread I apologize.
Kanroji is this pretty, innocent little girl who just wants to find love and be loved.
Of course, it is in human nature to crave love.
However, from the very beginning we can see she takes it further.

Kanroji is introduced as the love pillar, and during most of her first appearances she swoons over the attitudes of the pillars and Nezuko with blushing cheeks. As a result, people may think she is fickle or superficial, a bit of a pushover.
Some may even think she has a certain attitude towards love due to her nature as a love pillar and is obsessed with it.
In my humble opinion, that is a mistake. Appearances can be deceiving.

Kanroji is indeed a sweet soft girl.
And yes, she does say she joined the pillars to find a strong husband (who is stronger than her).
However, from her past we can see her reason for joining the demon hunters runs deeper than that, and to her love is not superficial.

However, from her past we can see her reason for joining the demon hunters runs deeper than that, and to her love is not superficial.
Her conception of love was affected by a potential husband who cast her away and insulted her at the age of 17.
She started acting as a weak woman and barely ate, affecting her health.
Part of it stuck for a long time, leading to the misconception of her being the "feeble waifu"

This rejection and lack of love caused a dent in her self-esteem and self-worth.
However, when she was accepted by the Demon Slayers for being the way she was she also started accepting her true self. I believe that to her love is partly synonymous to acceptance.

Thus, she feels thankful to those who helped her get where she is now and wishes to protect others with her true strength.
Because they believe in her as their ray of hope, and she wishes to be useful.
Because they believe in her as their ray of hope, and she wishes to be useful.
Now physically, with her thin body and innocent actions, she may be seen as someone who must be protected rather than someone who aims to protect.
And this is one of the main points I wanted to address. Because her strength is also one of the reasons why I like her so much.

I mentioned her being cast away by her husband.
To worsen things, he insulted her appearance, strength and eating habits.
All of these she couldn't help since she was born that way.
And we're going to focus on her strength.

Kanroji's strength was one of her most hated traits, as it was also the most shocking and outrageous one in the eyes of others.
First of all, it wasn't even noticeable at first glance, for she was a thin small girl. Even her mother was shocked.
Second of all, it was incredible!

As we can see above, she has superhuman strength, and I really appreciate a strong female character.
Plus, she is very cute, sweet and lovable and displays a variety of emotions.

I appreciate the fact that Kanroji is also special in this area.
Her particular agility, mobility, flexibility and constitution make her have a unique way of fighting and showcases her skills, experience and knowledge.

Despite there not being many interactions so far, I believe that Obanai has feelings for her due to the two panels below.
Though I do not know whether she shares those feelings, I like Obanai so far and this seemed really sweet to me since she is looking for love.
Here we have Obanai gifting her the stripped socks she always wears:
(And so far Obanai doesn't seem the type to gift anything to just anyone)
Let's add the fact that he is looking away like a little boy with a crush, and the hearts next to the snake... Adorable.

Then, we have this glorious image which warms my heart since Iguro (and his snake) are looking at her in such a focused manner and she looks immensely happy eating to her heart's content.

My second observations start here and will be mostly centered around this chapter only.
After writing my first set of observations I kept reading, and as a result this short commentary emerged.

Some of my suspicions about her were confirmed.
Kanroji is very sweet, shows multiple expressions, especially adorable ones, and cares a lot about those close to her. We can also see she's very hospitable towards Tanjiro, just like the other pillars he's fought with before.

It's interesting and endearing how her love for sweets extends to the production of honey and she keeps bees in her residence for that purpose.

She gets really excited about it (as she does about many other things, she's an excitable sweetheart) and makes pancakes!

The first thing Obanai did upon appearing was mention her. Twice. This boy has a crush.
Plus they exchange letters!

And he did the same when he was saying goodbye to Tanjiro.
I'm pretty sure Obanai essentially hates Tanjiro because he gets along with Kanjiro.

Conclusion? Obanai whipped and jealous.

I'm giving a lot of importance and mentioning a lot the relationship between Kanroji and Obanai because I believe it is a very important part of her character and life.
Obanai protects her like no one would or does. It's his strongest wish to do so.

Furthermore, I believe their relationship may develop and lead to character development.
Obanai is someone who truly loves and accepts her how she is and takes care of her in his own silent manner and it's only a matter of time she realises the true extent of it.

Kanjiro is a character who gets scared rather easily.
During her fight against Muzan she was deathly afraid of the vast skill difference since her hits seemed to have no effect whatsoever.
She was scared to such lengths that she couldn't even talk properly.

She was scared to such lengths that she couldn't even talk properly.
She's also not the brightest and a bit simple at times, yet her determination is strong and despite her worries, fears or shortcomings she keeps on fighting next to her comrades.
Kanroji's heart is in the right place.
She knows the value of human life and aims to protect others at all costs. She does not want to see a single life wasted and aims to protects others.
She is a true pillar through and through.

When the fight truly gets serious, Kanjiro is a model pillar.
She is strong.
She is slashed countless times yet she still finds it in her to keep going.
To keep fighting to protect the weak and those she cares about.

She is self conscious over being protected and not being of much help at times, yet it does not bring her down but makes her stronger.
Her resolve is not weak and she keeps going forward to honour those that helped her and thought she was needed and worthy of protection.

Unfortunately, this leads to her not worrying about her own life. She is slashed and pain runs through her whole body. Obanai is worried at the sight of her being so beaten up and in such grave danger, yet she selflessly asks him, someone she cares about, to save himself instead.
Chapter 188: Sorrowful Love
A fitting title indeed.
The sorrow I felt when I read Obanai's story pained me because he considers himself a dirty and lowly human being due to his upbringing, his family and past when he is actually someone precious. It saddens me to the core.

The sorrow I felt when I read Obanai's story pained me because he considers himself a dirty and lowly human being due to his upbringing, his family and past when he is actually someone precious. It saddens me to the core.
I have decided to entrust a big part of this thread to this, especially regarding Obanai's pure love for Kanroji and her valiant actions as a demon hunter, as a pillar.
Firstly, KANROJI THE LOVE PILLAR

We can see how she brings herself down, considering he contribution unimportant and berating herself despite all her efforts.
She faces her fears and finally decides that even if she loses her life in the process, she will fight Muzan, who she sees as scary and dangerous.
