1/2 Spent time with the patrolling police vans at Delft last night. The alcohol has really taken a load out of their work, they're grateful for it. Where the dockets will mostly be about stab wounds on taverns and all are now about following up on more serious cases.
The hysteria about Covid-19 is also real, ppl clog emergency numbers with silly questions about the disease that should be directed to health officials. The health dept needs to spend more time on community radios educating people about the virus and what precautions to take.
Someone dragging a dustbin at odd hours in the township means alcohol deliveries. Police know this but brush it off most of the time because they don't have time nor resources to clamp it down, and also don't care to be enforcing cigarette sale bans on spaza shops.
Parents worry in the township that the scarcity of normal substances, like alcohol, means the prevalence of drugs. 'My so used to drink beer and sleep. Now he becomes wild at night because he's taking drugs more.' These are unintended consequences of the alcohol ban.
'Yes it's a worry that the ban of alcohol will create underground cartels like druglords, which in turn will perpetrate more crime. But as a temporal measure it has give our police stations a breather and much needed time to collect our thoughts and plan…' The station commander
A bottle of Viceeroy goes for R800 on the township underground trade, and they say on Sundays it can even go to a grand. I was too scared how is the bottle for whisky goes for. I'm not sure where the traders get their stock but suspect our revenue collector doesn't gain from this
Of course this was supposed to be: "The alcohol ban has really taken a load out of their work…" But a genius that I am I only proofreading after sending my tweets and emails😂🤣🤪 I am also tired a d sleepy.
