Post the 2012 blackout in half of the country, India& #39;s grid & power transmission capacity was ramped up to handle fluctuations & deviations in real time. Here& #39;s an article I wrote on why the blackout happened & how it changed India& #39;s grid system https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/learning-from-power-blackout-better-scrutiny-network-help-prevent-outage-117073100052_1.html">https://www.business-standard.com/article/e...
Former @pgcilindia chairman R N Nayak (2011-2015) rules out repetition of such an outage. “Unless sabotage is planned, it is impossible that an outage over such a large area would happen again.”
Simply put: India& #39;s power demand is quite low these days (as industry is shut). Demand has fallen by 30% in March. Household demand from lighting is just 10% of current power demand of 120GW.
At national level, this is nothing.
Conclusion: Our Power Grid is built to handle fluctuations.
Switching off lights is a great idea, not just for one day but on daily basis! Hope this #9MinutesForIndia event also help us to understand the importance of saving energy
So #StayHomeStaySafe & #switchoff to #savenergy
