And on my 70th hour of work this week I got called unprofessional, irresponsible and dumb for calling a specialist about a quickly decompensating GI bleeder. And I quote, “You do the scope if you’re so worried”.
So that’s neat.
Update: The hgb continued to drop. Said specialist is on his way in to scope the guy.

I let this dude yell at me for 10 mins because I knew it would make him feel better and the patient would get the care he needed, but also I’m a human with feelings so maybe don’t yell at me
Update #2: My attending called twice to tell me that I did everything correctly. The residents who heard the exchange found me chocolate with impressive speed. And my sweet intern asked me to walk him through initiating insulin because he knows I love teaching.
Update #3: My attending stepped in immediately. He called the specialist directly. He told me multiple times that my assessment and plans were correct every step of the way. He checked in multiple times to make sure I knew that and was OK. He is a very good person.
