THREAD: I say this with love bc I know everybody has good intentions: If you are making a project about how female filmmakers were oppressed by the patriarchy & you do not seek & hire women to write it, you are a part of the oppressive patriarchy which is still active today.

If you are a male writer and you do not AT LEAST say “Let me find a great woman to write this with me,” you are a part of the oppressive patriarchy which is still active today.

I’m not saying you’re a bad group of guys.

I am certain that you make donations to liberal causes and love your wives and daughters. But you’re part of the problem if you’re not a part of the solution.

It’s not that it’s “tone deaf” for a bunch of men to write and produce a project about four female female filmmakers who were oppressed by the patriarchy of Hollywood. It’s that it’s powerfully fucking wrong.

Again. Said with love. And also with rage. Maybe it’s the pandemic. But I’m tired of being polite in the face of this kind of thing. You can and you should do better than this, my friends.

PS if it is your instinct to reply to this thread with “but there is one female producer on this otherwise all male team“ you are a part of the oppressive patriarchy which is still active in Hollywood.
