One of my heroes: my Great-Great Grandfather, Caspar Schieler. A Roman Catholic priest and theologian who eventually broke from the church, left Germany and came to America, serving the German Evangelical Synod of North America.

The last church he pastored at until his death. He’s buried in the church grave yard. I’ve never been, but hope to visit one day.

The cathedral he served at as priest and professor as it would have stood pre-war.

For those wondering what my most prized possession is, it’s a number of his books I’ve collected over the years the majority of which are still in German and need translation.
