What does it mean to have an internet connection? It means being connected to the internet by its actual native means of site-to-site transportation: a fiber of glass. We need every building to have this, like plumbing and electricity.
Yes many people are connected over copper wire (DSL) or tv cable (Coaxial). Those are ingenious hacks. They were created to roll the internet out faster. The internet is awesome. You could transmit it over carrier pigeon if you were patient enough.
Once the immediate problems are resolved, and we all settle into world 2.0 we need to finish building the infrastructure we need. Right now the internet is the thing that keeps us connected in more ways than we all imagined.
It's all a question of priorities. In most places around here we have natural gas pipes to the house. That's a lot more complex and fragile than fiber strands as far as infrastructure goes.
