Was bored and a little sleepy, so I bought @Will_S_7& #39;s Rings of Akhaten ebook because my physical copy isn& #39;t here yet, and I find it very engrossing. Also a little spiky; I used to be a fan of the "New Athiests" (though haven& #39;t read their work in at least a decade). Buy his book!
If you& #39;d told me back in highschool that, in my thirties, I& #39;d stay awake on a Friday night by voluntarily reading media criticism of a British science fiction television show... Well, I& #39;d be surprised about the subject matter, at least.
There& #39;s been more than one moment where - and I have to admit I didn& #39;t like the episode going into this book, having rewatched it last night - I& #39;ve thought to myself "...fuck, he& #39;s right," and gained some respect for the episode.
The New Athiesm bits are "spiky," by the way, in the sense that it& #39;s uncomfortable to revisit old prejudices I& #39;d had when I was young and dumb(er), not because I still think of myself as ideologically allied to that movement - I don& #39;t.
God - and I can& #39;t stress this enough - *DAMMIT*
