Thread: I went out to pick up my prescription from CVS and milk and eggs from a small grocery chain (we will leave it unnamed) with my homemade mask today.

Cvs is doing a lot to protect their employees and customers. They’ve put up barrier, taped off sections of floor at 6ft increments, and they are all wearing masks and sanitizing the pharmacy. They put wipes for you to use everywhere. They tried. 2/n
But still these customers who were mostly older folks were standing and chatting like it was another day. In the doorway. I think the only thing that prompted them to move was the fact I looked like a masked bandit. 3/n
When I got to the grocer, it looked like no one had even heard of a virus. Standing too close to each other. Blocking aisles. 4/n
And the PRICES OH MY GOD. They were DEFINITELY price gouging. Eggs cost twice as much as they normally do. Nothing like taking advantage of poor rural communities 5/n
When I went to check out, the woman behind me in line was standing way too close. And she made a snide remark about my mask. Told me she saw a tutorial online about making them out of bras since I obviously don’t care about how stupid I look. 6/n
The point of this thread: Appalachians (at least here) are not taking this seriously. Someone has already died in my small community (~30k in the whole county) and 3 more cases have been confirmed. If that many people have been tested, think how many more could have it! 7/n
People in small towns, I’m telling you this: we are not immune because of our little bubbles we think we live in. If anything, we are more in danger because our hospital infrastructure can’t handle any major strain. The single ventilator will not hold us all. n/n
